Loler Examinations
What Are They?
LOLER stands for Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations, and concerns the safeguarding of those operating lifting equipment such as cranes.
The LOLER regulations stipulate that an examination should be completed before first use, and then every 12 months for lifting equipment, and every 6 months for lifting accessories. For any lifting equipment lifting people, the examination schedule is also every 6 months.
Why Are They Important?
Not only is a LOLER inspection a legal requirement, but it’s purposes extend much further than to avoid legal penalties. As a business owner or manager, it is hugely important that you take the best interest of your employees into consideration – which is the primary purpose of having this inspection.
What Equipment Do They Cover?
The test covers a wide range of machinery used for lifting, including overhead cranes, hoists, manipulators, crane attachments and forklifts. As well as any below the hook lifting accessories. They also cover any access equipment for lifting people such as scissor lifts and cherry pickers (MEWPS), and forklift man cages.
What Does a LOLER Examination Test Include?
The principle behind this inspection it to make sure your cranes and other lifting equipment are safe, which is why LOLER inspection companies must take into account the following criteria:
